GRAMMY Quickie: Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance Nominee Dream Theater

Artist: Dream Theater

Nominated track: “On the Backs of Angels” from their 2011 release A Dramatic Turn of Events

HardRockChick: What is it about your nominated track that represents you as an artist?

Dream Theater guitarist John Petrucci: “On The Backs Of Angels” truly represents what Dream Theater is all about. From the very beginning we set out to merge progressive rock with metal while keeping an emphasis on melody, song structure and musicianship. To me, OTBOA embodies that original vision to the fullest extent. I’m so honored that this song has been recognized by the Recording Academy. I think it says a lot about the state and relevance of prog-metal in today’s musical landscape and we are all incredibly excited about the nomination!”

HRC: What would a GRAMMY win for this nomination mean to you?

Petrucci: “Winning a Grammy would just be a tremendous honor! It’s something that I have dreamed about since I started playing guitar as a young boy. Although at times it has felt as if Dream Theater has been swimming against the tide playing the type of music that we do, we have always had the amazing support and dedication of our great fans around the world. Adding a win of this magnitude and importance to the DT story, knowing that we have never compromised our musical style or integrity would be truly incredible!”
