As you can tell from my live review metrics- the venue definitely plays a role at a show. And, man, there are some great ones here in SF- The Great American Music Hall, Bottom of the Hill, Bimbo’s 365, The Warfield. Austin has Stubb’s and The Backyard, San Antonio has (had?) Sunken Gardens.
I asked some bands where they would want to play their dream gig, and here’s what I got:
“Outer space, baby! I want to be the first band to play in outer space! Either on the moon or on a space station but mark my words…. I WILL sing for the first rock band in outer space and make musicical history!”

“That is a tough question, because there are so many KILLER venues to play a dream show at. I think Zen Vendetta, however, would choose a venue close to where we live and work, so as many of our friends and family would be able to come enjoy the show. Since we hail from the Livermore Valley, in the S.F. East Bay of California, we would love to play at the Oakland Arena, Shoreline Amphitheater, or Chronicle Pavillion. Those venues are all close to home.
Of course, a sell-out Wembley Stadium in England would be nice, too.”
“Personally, my dream gig would be cloven-footed, kinda shimmery with a golden sheen and slightly out of focus, soft, and running around in a forest until we meet in a tryst of really weird alien sex involving holes and feelers that i never knew existed, then waking up all sticky and sweating under my bedsheets. Oh wait, that was my dream last night. My dream gig would be a show with Qui, 400 Blows, Turbonegro, Meat Puppets, and Buzzcocks at Emo’s in Austin on a Saturday night. Or New Year’s Eve with the Melvins and Comets on Fire. But we already did both of those, so I guess I can die now!”
